Watched this movie yesterday with my friend in 4Dx and I can say that this is one of Disneys best live action films up to date! I can’t wait for this movie to get uploaded on Disney + so I can watch it all over again 💗 Vanessa’s acting was crazy!! She genuinely scared me when she screamed or laughed, I think she did an amazing job as Vanessa. Some of the visuals were genuinely very creepy/scary. Like when Ursula turns into a giant, or when they swim into Ursula’s cave. Some parts of this movie are dark as well. For example, in the cartoon Ariel signs the paper with an enchanted pen. While, in this live action, Ariel signs the deal with blood by pulling a scale from her tail. I personally love these dark elements but it is something to keep in mind when taking your kiddos or if it is something that you’re uncomfortable with! I loved Ariel’s facial expressions and gestures, it made her seem innocent and adorable. I feel like she captured Ariel’s childlike and innocent essence perfectly. I love how they expanded on Ariel’s and Erick’s relationship. They actually show that they have stuff in common and Erick is a lot sweeter to her in this movie which I love. The only thing that I disliked was that Ariel only received two outfits!
⭐️things to keep in mind about the 1 star reviews.⭐️ I have read some and I’m convinced that some of those reviewers did not watch the movie or the cartoon 80s original simply bc some of the things that they are claiming are not true. These “little mermaid” or “Disney” fans are getting their facts all wrong.
One reviewer claimed that Ariel did not attack Ursula in the cartoon and instead stood innocently on the side while the other sea creatures did the work for her. Yes this does happen but once they are underwater, Ariel does attack Ursula once she puts on King Tritons crown. They are calling Halle Baileys Ariel a “hood rat” for “brutally attacking” Ursula even though the cartoon Ariel does the same in fact, Ariel is more aggressive in the cartoon.
There are lots of ppl claiming that the movie was so dark that they weren’t able to see the movie. That’s completely false. Either they need to get their eyes checked or they’re lying. Yes, the trailer did show dark and dull looking visuals. The movie as a whole was very colorful and vibrant much more than the trailer was. Of course some scenes were dark but that was just the setting of the scenes. CGI on the other hand was not Avatar level lol but this is a kids movie. I wouldn’t say it was bad. I do think the fact that flounder and Sebastian looked off added to the humor to the movie sometimes flounder would just be chilling there like 👁️👄👁️
Finally, many changes were made to the live action Cinderella movie yet that movie received 4.5 stars on google reviews. Some changes were made to the little mermaid movie but they still captured the essence of the movie. They kept a lot of the iconic lines, scenes and songs. Yet this movie received 3.5 stars. We have to keep in mind that this is a remake made for the new generation to enjoy!
I hope google posts my review I’ve tried 3 times 😔
