I gave it a real shot until now. Acolyte Episode 5
From the outset, the acting in this episode falls well below the standard expected, even for Disney productions. It marks a significant low point in performance quality. Compounding this issue, the script itself is riddled with flaws—from malfunctioning lightsabers to baffling decisions such as allowing the protagonist to escape after a Sith villain effortlessly pulls a Jedi through a lightsaber, only to give chase moments later. This sequence strains credibility given what we know of the Sith's capabilities.
The Sith villain, portrayed as formidable earlier, oddly struggles in combat against a Jedi master and their padawan after dispatching several other Jedi without much effort. This sudden shift in ability feels jarring and undermines the established character dynamics. Particularly perplexing is the Jedi master's decision to attempt punching the Sith in what appears to be beskar armor, risking injury to his own hands.
Even more perplexing is the Jedi master's passive stance as his apprentice meets a tragic fate. The introduction of a cape as a distraction further detracts from the episode's coherence, halting the action in an inexplicable manner. Though the Jedi eventually engages, it proves too late to save his fallen comrade.
The episode concludes with a bizarre standoff where the Jedi master hesitates to strike down the Sith, only to be interrupted by the main protagonist, who inexplicably illuminates the Jedi's back—a move that serves no apparent purpose other than to facilitate the protagonist's escape.
By this point, my patience was exhausted, prompting me to cancel my subscription. Regardless of any underlying agendas, the handling of the Star Wars universe in this episode feels careless and disrespectful. While diversity within the Star Wars universe is welcomed, it should not overshadow fundamental aspects such as script quality, character portrayal, and directorial decisions.
In summary, this episode fails to live up to the standards expected of a franchise with such a rich legacy. It comes across more as a fan-made production rather than a professional, multi-million dollar endeavor. With so much potential at their disposal, it's disheartening to see it squandered in such a manner.
I canceled my $20.00 Disney subscription, it expires on the 15th..
After 25 long years, I bid my old friend Star Wars goodbye.
