The way "religious values" matter in society are in the actions of people. The basic tenets of all mainstream faiths are alike - love one another, do unto others, etc. We are supposed to be good stewards of the land, animals, water, and each other. There are far too many people who sanctimoniously check in to a building once a week and then treat others like dirt the rest of the time. It has zero to do with government. Freedom of religion prevents any of us from forcing others into our customs, but rather gives us the means to practice them for ourselves. Don't believe in war? Don't join the military. Don't believe in premarital sex? Don't do it. Etc. Be good citizens, respect your local laws/neighbors, care for "the least of these", don't hoard money, and the kingdom of heaven will be yours. Be a bully and you go to the other place.
