This is an outstanding adaptation of the James Clavell novel. I read it decades ago and then again last month when I saw that the series was coming out. If you haven't read the book and aren't familiar with Japanese culture or history, I can see where the series might be a bit confusing. Plus having to focus on the subtitles takes away from watching the subtle acting and outstanding attention to detail in clothing, scenery and costuming... Overall however, it is a really good glimpse into a fascinating world of the collision between 2 cultures...
