It's the best written and best acted American television series I've seen. It's obvious that the writers are erudite and have a masterful sense of humor. The humor is sometimes dark, but I find the writing as unforgettable as that of Shakespeare, Faulker, or Flannery O'Connor. The names of characters are well-chosen and have a kind of resonance that is rarely found in writing for television in this country. Limehouse, played by Mykelti Williamson, is one of my favorites, as he hacks away with a cleaver at the barbecue which is a front for his drug and prostitution business; Margo Martindale serving her "apple pie" to an old friend who has mistreated her offspring is another special moment; yet, the most unforgettable for me is Walton Goggins' portrayal of Boyd Crowder prancing across the stage with a Bible and speaking in tongues, as he preaches to his congregation of reformed ex-convicts .
