This story is a long and totally absorbing rant against what passes for the American Social System. The loale is the Appalachians of worked out coal mines and destitution in the late 20th century when Oxycontin was enriching Bigpharma. The author, who lives in the area, has a keen eye for the absurdities and human waste of the situation. An absolutely unpardonable read that remains in the mind for a long time.
