Come with me to a universe filled with an infinite amount of possibility… okay maybe that’s a lie, but the finite in this case is far away from the mines of Vectera. I’ve written this now at least 5 times, because of my ADHD’s need to (just like in the game) point out and touch on all of the different aspects and points of interest. Yesterday I sat down for an hour or two worth of Freestar missions. I started the initiate mission, then decided to buy the 400k Narwhal that I was under leveled for. So, I decided to grind out Crimson Fleet missions which somehow turned into exploring a random moon, which then lead me to wanting to find the perfect location for an outpost. While mining the materials for said outpost my loins drove me back into space to try and find where I could get a shielded cargo from. Which in turn lead to the frustration of getting a shielded cargo and trying to figure out how to attach it. Once I got that done, I finally decided it was a good session and put the controller down 5 hours later with one Freestar Ranger mission accomplished.
This is by far my favorite Bethesda game and by the end of this next weekend I will have put more time on it than every one of their IP’s combined (outside of Fallout 2). I’ve not come anywhere near completing the main story, but I’ve already been wowed, suffered a few untimely deaths and have been left frustrated in all the best ways. The game is just out right fun for anybody willing to play it with an open and unbiased mind not to mention addicting. The stories are phenomenal with side missions being the in my opinion better than the main, the mechanics just work on a level I never expected for this studio, and I’ve had almost no issues with the game at all. Wait till you feel the physics of kick back on the weapons when floating! Despite one loading screen freezing on me it has been quite literally the best RPG I have ever played which says a lot, because I have remarkably ambitious standards. It takes so much to pull me away from the ADHD soothing chaos of FPS multi-player shooters. This adventure clearly has hundreds of hours’ worth of gameplay and that’s without starting a new game +.
Of course, as you’ll grow to learn I’m very honest about my reviews though, one common complaint which I understand is the slow start… you’re thrown into this universe with a ship, a general direction and not much else. This not only can be a little boring, but daunting to people who are neurodivergent. The loading screens really aren’t an issue outside of neon which is one door or elevator after the other. This game is amazing, it might be hard to get into it for people but well worth it once you do. Unfortunately, gaming has come a long way and even with this being Bethesda’s best game to date and easily in my opinion a contender for game of the year, I don’t believe it has the title locked. There have been some amazing titles this year and even with everything great Starfield brought to us, one thing I can’t say it did is change the game up like Bethesda was capable of doing in the genre pre-2015 where they redefined what made an RPG truly great. Take this with a grain of salt though because on a personal level this will go down as one of the best games I’ve ever graced with my pixelated self.
