Great filmmaking, great acting, but at 3 and a half hours the great actors run out of notes and colors in their characterizations. The script and direction gives them nothing else to play. So unfortunately the viewer gets a bit tired of their work. The first ten minutes and the last ten minutes are simply brilliant. And the many Indigenous actors are a thrill to behold, whether in speaking or silent roles. The film wakes up a white viewer to a world.

It’s terrific. Acting superb. Producution values far richer than almost anything you can see on streaming now, especially Downton Abbey, with which it is wrongly compared. That takes place in a stately home. AGE takes place in all of old New York with a gorgeously costumed cast of some of the finest stage actors in America. Beautifully written and directed. Suspenseful and utterly engaging.
