This is what happens when you have people creating something purely out of Nostalgia, rather than a firm understanding of what made the original great. It's not terrible, but not anywhere near good either. The campy tone wrecks the atmosphere set by the original, which DID have lighthearted and wacky moments, but only as heavy sprinkles over a somber and melancholy serving. John Cho is woefully miscast despite his talents, and he isn't even given a good Spike to work with. Everyone is peppy and more about makeshift "family" than anyone in a Fast and Furious movie, when in the original everyone more or less was begrudgingly working together to survive. A few storylines get mashed up, mostly for the worst, and new additions like the Vicious and Julia (taking up a whopping 1/3rd of the entire run time, more than Ein) are so off the mark and out of place it doesn't just wreck it's own moments, it actively sabotages their related stories. This is essentially just a series of well produced fan films that don't really capture the feel of Cowboy Bebop. And that's all we were looking for. To FEEL like we were watching Cowboy Bebop.
