This game has ruined the Battlefield franchise. Since the release of Bad Company 2, I’ve logged tens of thousands of hours on every BF game released, sad but no joke. I promise, you will not find another reviewer with more hours actually logged on this franchise. I’ve loved every second until this garbage heap of a game. The only imagination they put into this game is their new format for squeezing every cent out of their consumer. This game is more about social justice and outfits than actual war.
Here's how they fudged up:
- Support class is now resigned to the prone position. Other than sentry kits, Battlefield has NEVER limited the support class like this. In BF1 machine guns could be fired off-shoulder so why not WWII? And btw the mg42 CAN in fact be fired off-shoulder, even whilst aiming. My favorite class, the Support class, has been ruined.
- Rush mode (the reason I switched to BF) gone since BF1 and I’m still steaming about it. No one wants to play 12 v 12 rush!
- No guns, and the guns you get are obscure prototype weapons that NEVER SAW ACTION IN THE WAR. Congrats now you're COD.
- No content with DLCs.
- Maps are lacking at best
- Too many game modes, splitting player bases up, resulting in poor server longevity
- I was happy to see Test Range was back, but this too was a massive letdown. 2 planes, and no ability to use YOUR guns or vehicle settings. Kinda defeats the point eh.
- Unsatisfactory stat tracking and NO GUN STATS!!!
- No campaign, unless you enjoy pressing the “interact” button thousands of times while watching a hippy’s interpretation of fighting in WWII.
- Spotting enemies has been in battlefield since the beginning & was a huge part of my gameplay, so naturally EA made severe changes to this aspect because they're a bunch of Ebenezer Scrooges. Not to mention the usual glitches, lag, server mishaps and constant changes to gameplay.
I get that the makers wanted to focus on less known theatres of WWII, and I don't usually stress about historical accuracy, but this game is just ridiculous..
- no explanation as to where each multiplayer map is located or what battle took place
- woman only fought in Russia, and sparingly at that. Although I do support the addition of female characters.
- calibers do not accurately correspond with power.
- no Russian PPSH, even though this was one of their most widely used firearms.
- apparently the French never fought in WWII.
You'd think some of the glitches would be fixed within a year of the initial release, but you'd be wrong to assume EA puts time into making their games work. In fact the latest September update has resulted in even more glitches, worse server performance, and jumpy game play. Despite EA stating that the update would fix existing issues, it has only made things worse - at least for North American xbox servers.
Assault rifles are no longer effective. This, along with other COD-like gameplay implemented by EA, has reduced the range at which you can engage enemies; bringing the action in closer and taking away one of the last remaining unique features about battlefield. Why does EA make constant changes to the gameplay? To me, it genuinely seems like EA is trying to make it easier for less skilled players to get kills, or at least reduce the amount of times these noobs get killed. That way, everyone gets a participation trophy.
Battlefield Bucks, or whatever EA calls their fake currency, should be ILLEGAL!!! I really wish there was more consumer protection for video games. In no other industry could a massive company like EA get away with selling a new product that they know will never work properly, and sometimes not at all. When you make promises to your consumers, especially when you rely on renewal business, you better meet expectations. Otherwise you'll end up like Atari.
This concludes my rant. Don’t buy the game. After this BF I’m done forever. Peace Battlefield & go buck yourself EA.
