It was amazing! Super dark. Disturbing. Phoenix was fantastic. Reminded me of other masterpieces that left you haunted and contemplating life like Taxi Driver and A Clockwork Orange. If you grew up in NYC in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s it will likely hit you especially hard as I felt like I was watching the worst parts of my childhood on the screen. The feeling of NYC on the brink of collapse and bankruptcy in a time of crime, filth, serial killers, graffiti, blackouts, arson, urban decay, Bernie Geotz and everything else that came along with the New York Post or Daily News headlines of the Of the day we’re palpable. Great film
