One star for the real star of this film, Mr. Sidney Poitier who gave a wonderful performance.
A second star to the B&W cinematography, so artfully done, like the beautiful art of Ansel Adams.
A third star for the message of building a community and for the Homer Smith character for helping someone despite their lack of gratitude and compassion. The character of the cold, single-minded elder nun was too much...but then so is organized religion. His leaving in the end, was the perfect "Ay-men!"
