Please read some 1930s and 1940 history before watching this movie. The climax had 8 times the impact knowing first hand about Depression Era poverty. We see it every day in Appalachia even now. I lived through it too. Like 4 out of 8 of the rowers, I had a career in Engineering. They only had what they could do, not Daddy's money to sponsor them, as did I. Winning an Olympic gold medal in front of a not yet mad Dictator and 100k audience was truly heroic. That is all true makes it unequaled today. The closest I every saw was Kerri Strug, the Olympic gymnast who won despite a broken ankle. She was carried off the mat by her coach to disbelief of the Soviet crowd. These young men should be remembered.
