The book had a slow start but the story was compelling and ended strong. The dog, 9:30, was a heartfelt part of the story, ironically adding a very human touch. Unfortunately, 9:30 is too much in the background and almost completely silenced.
The neighbor was a motherly presence, and an inspiration as she found her voice. Sadly, that voice is not just silenced, it’s totally absent.
She’s replaced with a whole new Harriet, and now we’re watching a civil rights drama. It’s a worthy story, but it’s not THIS story!
And that’s just the tip of this sinking iceberg. It seems everything we loved about the book has been bent to the will of a new Woke agenda, resulting in an exercise in frustration for fans of the book.
I can’t help but wonder what possessed the author to agree to this deal…or maybe I can.
