Watched your interview with Prof Schoub re covid in South Africa. As a govenment advisor he could not be too outspoken, but the truth is the ANC govenment has completely dropped the ball in procuring vaccines. You raised the point that South Africa is a relatively wealthy country and should have been able to plan and commit to vaccine acuisition. This was indeed the case, but today the country has a shattered economy with 40%+ unemployment, is basically bankrupt and well on the way to becoming another failed African state. The ANC is a criminal mafia (much like Russia) which has run the country into the ground courtesy of rampant endemic theft and corruption at all levels of government and the civil service, police etc, incomptence and general malfeasance. State owned enterprises have been used as conduits for the looting spree such that they are all bankrupt and in need of constant taxpayer bailouts. Services such as power generation, education, healthcare and others have all deterioirated seriously. The pandemic was just an extra nail in the coffin and an opportunity for further looting. Large amounts of some R 500 bn provided for PPE, upgrading of the health system and support to fight the pandemic have simply vanished. The government insists on controlling everything (for personal gain) so they wish to monopolise the import of vaccines cutting out the very able private medical sector which would be able to make a major contribution in sourcing and distrbuting vaccines. In 26 years of ANC control not one major figure involved in corruption has been prosecuted and jailed. Much hardship lies ahead for the population.
