As expected of an etymologist, essayist, the book is great! Immensely detailed, ref'd, footnoted, it describes in detail so many things about the politics everywhere, how bitterly divided the country was - even in the "Union'. It uses a fictional woman to advance the plot; but, details of the attempted coup by Lincoln's Cabinet, how jaw-droppingly brilliantly he foiled it - himself! Much detail on the war, battles, conflicts with Abe and Generals. I say required reading for CW buffs, and any American History lovers.
