A very misunderstood story, delivered quite well. In some ways, the style lends itself to being read with the book, and though the stories diverge, they also relate back to each other.
The misunderstood part is this: things are happening to people that are somewhat interconnected for the stories to have relevance, but basically everyone's experience, everyone's reaction, everyone's psychotic break, is different and their own. At the same time, the tendline is towards a positive outcome. A lot of these details are implied, in the storytelling style of decades back, a more overt beating over the head provided by dialogue.
