Okay first of all it's not the same and I know it shouldn't be but there wasnt much detail in the movie. It was just all quick you know.. like it started off with a pony who wanted to be friends with a unicorn or a pegasus and yeah they did become friends, they also got magic back and then sunny gets those horns and wings and becomes an alicorn and that is literally it. There was no background story on this. The things I truly disliked about this movie : •They didnt even tell us how magic disappeared. I guess the only reason available after watching the movie is that, it just simply disappeared with no reason. •sunny was a little off when she realized that izzy didnt have magic which probably showed that she wanted magic more than a friend and yet she got the whole wings and horn things. And in mlp gen 4, the reason why twilight should've got the wings and horns were pretty appropriate and accepting but sunny getting them just doesnt bring that kind of a feeling on how it felt while watching twilight getting them. It also shows that twilight had taken years and years to learn the magic of friendship and all that but in this, it was too sudden. The only thing sunny did was unite all the ponies without like actually teaching herself what friendship truly is. She just wandered off with izzy and found a pegasus out of no where and then they found the crystal and blah blah blah. Sounds too easy right? I honestly think that the people who made this movie didnt give themselves enough time to make a creative story like even the fan based theories were much more interesting. I'm not saying I dislike this whole movie it's just that there should be more. In mlp generation 4 there was so much in there, u could actually feel like the staff had put some effort to it. Every single episode was fire but this movie was just ehhh. It was not bad but it could've been better and its definitely not any better than the generation 4 although I appreciate the effort of trying to make the best of it.
