What an odd dichotomy this was: it was beautifully shot, coherent editing, a well rounded cast of interviewees, and slow unfurling of the story. That's where it really hurts- the pretty picture with a horrific tragedy written between the cracks of a system that let down an innocent. It was a hard watch. I wish there was something from Pearl, Isauro,or the Sherrif Dept/DFPS but I guess I'll stew in my frustration at such incompetence and disregard of human life.
One thing that did slightly amuse me, as strange as this sounds, is that for every time they showed Pearl's photo, it was more often than not that weird unflattering one with the weird lipliner straight out of early 2000s. That was not her best look and I deeply appreciate the fact they plugged that in as often as they did. Kudos on that. As absolutely harsh as it sounds, I don't want to be reminded this person was a woman and mother who failed on both accounts. Pop that stupid picture up every time.
