I really anticipated and wanted to love this movie and while the cinematography was 10/10 the forced acting of the pilots and Admirals and overused cliches was cringe level. The black two star and Rooster were believable but on a whole the cast and script tried too hard. The movie reminded me of the 1980's Top Gun copycats such as Iron Eagle. Also, unlike the first movie, the spark between Pete and love interest just wasn't there. No sincerely came across.
I also didn't like the targeting of a real nation (Iran) on behest of regional powers. In the original a fictional nation was the adversary. Unless a post-war historical setting is the subject this usage of a real country (one with little box office influence lol) is inappropriate war shilling propaganda. I suppose this is to be expected in the current political era (note drills for an attack are simultaneous with this movie release).
