As most real gamers know there has been a shift in gaming over the last 10years where game development companies have moved away from innovation, creativity & fresh ideas to the current brand of games which is- produced what has worked well before and regurgitate the same content with a couple of cosmetic changes then charge gamers extortionate amounts of money for the privilege of playing last years version again...
With that in mind I was extremely excited for Diablo 4 as its predecessor Diablo 3 gave me so much joy and entertainment with breathtaking cut scenes and great battles and a engrossing storyline.
When Diablo 4 trailer dropped like every other fan of the Franchise I was writing a blank check for the game.
I recently watched reviews from IGN & eurogamer giving the game ridiculously high marks for a game that the consumers are giving 5 out of 10 too clearly these so called professional reviewers are not impartial in there opinions.
Anyway I digress, I will keep my review short and factual
Firstly- why in the world is the campaign online only? I have had ti glitch my way through hours of campaigning which is exceedingly frustrating.
Second- you have to complete the campaign before doing any exploring, i reached level 50 in 3 days and did 5-10 campaign missions now not a single enemy is a challenge and I cannot increase the difficulty to make it challenging for me until i complete the campaign so I am forced to rush a campaign now just to try and bring some fun back into the game.
Third- the lack of innovation and creativity, there is very little game play differences from diablo 3 which is actually great as you don't need to reinvent the wheel however there is litterally nothing new apart from being able to ride a horse, online events, playable characters & it being an online only game.
As you can imagine I could continue but I think i've said enough.
My summary is Blizzard have sold out and just become a mainstream game designer producing the same dross as everyone else and then brag about the initial sales numbers to cover the games inadequacies, how can a company who puts a £70 price tag on a game deliver such an underwhelming product? I sound like an old cynical man but the last 2 generations of consoles have delivered on the whole the worst variety and quality of games.
Finally to sign off I hope that Blizzard deliver some updates to atleast keep me playing or this will just be another forgotten game and a franchise death.
