The characters, especially Mel, are poorly written in a show that's poorly done. There are too ma y one sided conversations, the only character that seems realistic is Maggie, as an emotional youngest sister, and the oldest sister who I forget what her name is. Im reviewing because they Need to make Mel a better character. If it werent for the context of their daily lives, she is just a horrible human being. Selfish, secretive, stubborn, impulsive, manipulative/controlling, sexist, and just doesn't think of consequences. I'm fine with a rebellious character, but to have her so often put herself and her family in danger because she didn't listen to their input or kept important things from them is so tragic. The other characters are so vanilla in the way they were written, but oh my God is Mel a distractingly awful and angsty character. No offense to the actress meant, full offense to the character writers. I don't even write reviews for shows, just restaurants, but this character is so hate-able, she isn't considerate at all or her family. The old show was all about sisterhood and quabbles, but they all had redeeming qualities. This one just sucks butt
I don't care about her being a lesbian, it seems beside the point. What I do care about is how they made the decision to make a character a lesbian who also hates men and doesn't forget to mention every episode that she's only juuuust starting to like their white lighter who makes them breakfast everyday and answers all their questions any time they have them. She isn't supportive of her familyI appreciate that they didn't make him have a relationship with them though, tired of the coworker romance trope, it's so old.
Maggie is a bit of a baby but she's an empath who feels everything all the time so it works with the character.
Macy, that's the scientist, is nice enough. I got annoyed when the sisters told her to just spit out some news she was unsure of giving and then made her feel bad for doing so, leaving her confused. I like her the best.
Mel is just... So.... Hate-able. I hope she's the one that dies, for the fourth sister to replace. Her character is too many obnoxious qualities with nothing that makes her redeemable enough. The show isn't about sisters trying to learn to be witches.
Lucy, a side character, is portrayed like a sorority going rich girl who seems kinda dumb.... But she's actually maybe the NICEST CHARACTER IN THE SHOW. Maggie is flunking, so Lucy asked her boyfriend to tutor her... Aaaand Maggie KISSED HIM. Lucy ended up forgiving her and being really sweet and supportive thereafter. Why did they make our main character a scumbag? Why did they make the, otherwise annoying, side character so much more likeable than Mel?
It's about witches who are learning to be sisters and one learning how to be a decent human being??
