When I first watched it, it was the only American show that was regularly shown on my family’s British tv. I used to have horrible insomnia and would watch Roseanne marathons from 11pm to 4am most weekdays because this was before DVD players and VCRs were affordable. The show was so funny that I would end up finally being able to go to sleep but fighting it off to watch the rest of Roseanne. The show is hilarious and honestly would’ve been better if they allowed Roseanne to control more aspects of it. They talked down most of her ideas for the family (She wanted the Conners to be a Jewish family but they decided to keep ethnicity and religion out of it). She had all sorts of quirky and progressive ideas back when tv shows were trying to be more conservative,. I know she is considered right wing now but she had been a proponent of many liberal policies before it was popular on the left to do so. Roseannes family are great and Dans stormy anger make the tv show family seem like an authentic, hilarious family much relatable and just as dysfunctional as everyone else’s. This certainly was not keeping up with the jones’.

I love this show. Ended up buying the disks even though I rarely buy Tv series. The intelligent humor of Daria, her best friends, her family and classmates delights all. While she is a powerful role model for those who stand outside the norm. She is a monotone, free thinker but you come to love her quickly. Every single character in the show is one that I am happy they included and serves a sort of purpose when it comes to criticisms of mainstream society. She tackles a lot of issues while still being independent and the show thankfully stays somewhat neutral and vague when it comes to Politics, keeping to maim topics, or eludes to things, instead of getting into all sorts of examples that would divide the audience. Daria is a laugh for all ages. Intelligent humor mixed with wild, childish characters. The entire show is a huge criticism of society without coming off as too sanctimonious. A lot of teens will understand the things that go on in the show and this may help them realize that they aren’t the only ones that go through certain events. Daria is the only show that I would put this much effort into writing for. There are some amazing shows out there but nothing comes quite close to Daria, maybe Roseannne. I think young adults like college students would enjoy this the most.
