I'm new in the whole K-Drama scenes and Backstreet Rookie caught my attention solely because they used Kim Yoo-jung's bright smile as their Netflix poster.
I have to say, I was hooked since the first episode. The dynamics and chemistry between the two leads are undeniable as KYJ and Ji Chang-wook are absolutely great together.
The premise was refreshing too as for once, the female lead is the strong character in the pairing. KYJ's reason for joining the store was maybe initially just because her crush for Chang-wook's characters but the way she approached her day to day with him was what made this show so hilarious and endearing at the same time. As more and more episodes you watched, her backstory are more exposed and you can't help but care about the two lead characters.
Don't get me wrong though, Backstreet Rookie is still pretty much a K-Drama and the moments that tugs your heartstrings while rare, really does feel like you get hit by a truck.
Excellent series with loveable cast of characters, hillarious and heartwarming stories, as well as easy to follow storyline.
You can't go wrong with Backstreet Rookie as your first K-Drama ever.
