Zard Patton ka Bunn is a delightful show which we needed for a while. It is produced by Kashf Foundation, which is known for producing thought provoking dramas like Udaari, Kuch Ankahi, Dil Na Umeed to Nahi & so on. It is directed & written by the very famous duo, Saife Hasan & Mustafa Afridi, who are known for their hit shows like Sang e Mah, Ehd e Wafa & Jhok Sarkar. The cast includes the very talented Sajal Ali, Hamza Sohail, Ali Tahir, Mubashir Mehmood & others.
The story is about a girl named Meenu, who is ambitious & rebellious & wants to become a doctor at any cost. Her 4 brothers try to put every roadblock possible in her path to pursue education but she defies the odds & is determined to achieve her goals. On the other hand, Noufel played by Hamza Sohail is a young city doctor, who is morally upright & gets involved in hospital politics as he tries to help a man whose wife dies due to the irresponsible & wrong treatment of the head doctor. Meenu & Noufel’s paths cross when Noufel gets posted in Meenu’s village, Qesarkalan. Initially, Noufil finds it difficult to adjust there but an unfortunate incident forces him to stay there.
The show has also tried to address a lot of important social issues like family planning, drug abuse, gambling, maternal health, mortality & so on. The best thing about the show is that it never gets preachy. While there are some heavy moments but the light hearted moments balance out the seriousness of the show.
Talking about the performances, Sajal Ali is a formidable fighter who nails the role. She doesn’t miss a beat & delivers a powerful performance. She keeps doing these off beat roles one after the other & proves time & again why she’s one of the best actresses Pakistan has. I hope she keeps getting good scripts & roles because she’s a master at her craft & it’s a delight to watch her perform her characters so beautifully. Hamza Sohail, on the other hand, plays his part with honesty & is charming & charismatic in this role. The scenes between the leads are so cute and heartwarming. The pairing is fresh & you keep rooting for them to end up together.
Other than the main leads, Ali Tahir’s performance also stands out as Afzal Chacha. It feels like he was born to play this role. Mubashir Mehmood, who plays the charming Roshan, is brilliant too. The supporting cast is playing their roles perfectly & no character or actor feels out of place.
Other than the acting, the writing & direction is marvellous too. Saife-Mustafa duo has captured the essence of the rural life well. The dialogues are so powerful that they’ll be remembered for years. The background score & OSTs are soulful & catchy.
Give the show a chance as it is different from the run of the mill stuff we are bored to see on our screens these days. You won’t be disappointed:)
