So I was watching stuff on Disney+ and I had been wanting to save this movie to watch with my siblings, as we all were huge fans of the books. After watching it by myself, I won't even bother telling my siblings to give it a chance of a watch.
This film is a downright dreadful rendition of the books I adored as a child, books that I still own and even read now as an adult. I wasn't upset with the acting or their choice of actors, far be it. It's the terrible transition from the written format of the books to the visual platform of film that utterly butchered the entire premise of the story.
They simplified Artemis, the star of the story, to an educated 12 year old. Yeah he was smart, but no more than some kid who was a little ahead of his grade. He was by no means the genius level mastermind that was portrayed in the books.
And don't even get me started on the flow of the film. That was an utter disaster. Everything was going WAY too fast. It was rushed and felt very much they had no idea what they were doing, especially when they were cramming as much from the SEVEN books into one film, and they still manage to leave it off for a potential sequel. If they thought making this would have confused viewers because of the complexity of the books, they made it 10 times worse with this wreck of a production.
If I'm completely honest, The Last Airbender did a better job than this, and that's saying something. At least I could sit down an ENJOY that mess of a film, this one isn't even worth the watch. I most certainly feel as though I wasted 90 minutes of my time with this. And I pray, they dont make a second, because I definitely will NOT be watching that. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
