Why Kiki,
Is americano color in movies a bland desaturated decision? Is this to evoke the serious nature of films past. It is one of the few bones I have to pick with Dune. Reminiscent of a 19790s film… but why today! We have the crispness of movie technology in this film but not the color. Star Wars/Star Trek has better action and dialogue. This plot was superior (in potential) to Star Trek/Star Wars films in depth, and I’d argue character development in comparison to real world politics, but guess what…no one paid attention long enough to distinguish between the movies
The movie was still a bothersome patriarchal society…but barely? They obviously wanted to portend a society beyond the classic patriarchal society of years past (and books past). Enough to feel…like okay. They go some feminist points in, but it still felt uncomfortable. The feminist structure was a scholarly scene sans the main character (he was still the ruler) but you weren’t sure how far you wanted to dive in, maybe it was a feminist structure, in the front end, but not quite real enough in the end. The mother was inferior to her son even in a society where they wouldn’t kill them (but they would kill her if needed) because of her heritage.
Why did the local culture accept his rule but other outsider white culture
was antagonist to his rule (completely ignoring local philosophy). Potato patato.
This film is just excuses. The main actor was still lighter in color than the local population, and his mother, and his father was 100% white, which bothered me in view of a modern colonialist plot. And I’m white! The movie doesn’t seem to reflect our current society in American culture. Times are changing for the better. Seemed easy to hear avoid. Couldn’t we think of something more clever or diverse? Seriously, tired of this plot and avoidable white washing. Acting was good but Hollywood do better.
Best,
Ashley
