I am extremely lucky.
My friend told me about this game, and he had no idea what it was. So I — for some weird reason — decided to randomly buy this game without knowing what it was or even doing the slightest bit of research on it...
but I'm glad I did.
I don't normally randomly buy anything, but that actually made my experience with this game all the more better, because it's:
- Mysterious
- Immersive
- Dark
- A world to get lost in
- A game all about discovery
If I had done research, I probably would have known too much.
Very few Metroidvanias actually let you get lost (The Metroid games are THE only other games I can think of).
And they weren't even trying to make a Metroidvania. It was made from a game jam. They built it not based on what was trending, but they made something they would have played. Something they would enjoy.
Without even trying to show the Metroid/Castlevania-likes who's boss, they really set the bar for the Platformer sub-genre.
An interconnected world that lets you get lost.
Well done, Team Cherry. Well done.
