the movie is totally different from the book... reading the book was much more fun... i'm not saying that the movie is bad but a little more attention to the details like sea world, prom, the place where Margo was found, people on the road trip,the graduation bath robe scene, etc. would have made the movie better

Honestly, I don't know if it's worth the hype or not but I think everyone should read it atleast once just to step into a teenager's mind and feel what a person feels at that age. It's a great book but slow. It's not worth a second read.

The book is definitely much better and intense. The movie doesn't reflect the intensity in Elio's mind that was mentioned in the book which makes some scenes boring even tho they were originally very chaotically beautiful. The story was written to reflect on a teen boy's experience and adventures as he finds out who he is. I just don't think the movie presents that beautifully.
