Ncuti Gatwa totally has the the energy to play the Doctor. However, the writing in this episode is just nonsense. I tuned in to see how well he did as the Doctor, and I came out confused.
(Spoilers)
Some of the ideas were cool, but the cgi goblins were absolutely ridiculous. I lost my mind when they started singing a "pop song" while they fed a baby to their Jabba the Hut ripoff. I couldn't believe that I was watching a legit episode of Doctor Who.
Speaking of babies being fed to saggy goblin kings, the tone is completely out of wack. It revolves around them saving a newborn infant from being eaten, which is not reflected at all by the actors. There's no sense of urgency in the way they go about this "adventure."
In other words, my faith in DW is still dead. David Tenant's specials didn't do anything for me, and *The Church on Ruby Road* just shows me I'm in for the same drivel as before.
