i would call this my favorite film of all time it is an instant classic. It is beautifully shot and directed by the grand master of cinema Stanley Kubrick himself he touches on themes of artificial intelligence vs mankind and makes us wonder if artificial intelligence could also have feelings or if it is just programmed to simulate them. The opening dawn of man sequence is amazing giving audiences an insight into life before humans came around and how ancient tribes here shown as monkeys lived we see them encounter a monolith and touch it we feel their confusion as us the audience are not aware only helping to show and not tell Kubrick decides to show and leave the mystery going on making us sit on the edge of our seats wanting to know more and more.
We then see the tribe start to use bones as weapons and develop their brains more starting to evolve into killing animals and eating meat when one of the tribesmen kills an enemy with the bone he throws it up maybe in anger or in joy and then we cut to a spaceship milenia later this is one of the most beautiful cuts in cinematic history.
The rest of the film follows humans trying to discover the mystery of the monolith along with us audience members who also want to know and deals with computer HAL 9000 and how he almost has human emotions this film is beautiful, captivating and feels like a very religous experience I am a christian and this film was not just a film it was an experience. We experience the film not just watch it when the film ended I knew this would be one of the greatest experiences ever which is why I watch it every year and it's sequel 2010.
