If I could, I would write a strongly worded letter to the Director, who is obviously someone's straight friend or who has unfortunately had to deal with their partner's shame far too long (no shade) I would. This offering of a Christmas rom-com is a sham. It's not romantic, it's typical. And a very well cast version of Lez Bomb (check Netflix).
Sure, many folks have had to deal with this, but where is the LGBTQ Christmas movie that is about love, joy, not settling to be called an "orphan" when you're a partner? The "I went to rural Vermont and bought a B&B" love? Or the "wacky, no one knows we're pregnant yet" storyline? Nope? Only the heteros get this sort of light-hearted dramatized story telling?
Despite, the deep lack of racial diversity (which we're also used to) this movie could have offered so many of us the potential to witness healthy boundaries and clear communication rather than another movie where the brunette has to brood quietly. This feels epically 90's and early 2000's deep lez, the queers have grown, give us better, especially with all the awesome actors strewn throughout this movie.
