A gentle introduction to the roguelike genre, and a fresh take to veteran players. As someone who mainly used to play a large variety of different games (valorant, terraria, pokemon), it was very easy to pick up after a couple tries.
Worth every penny, I highly recommend you at least give it a try. If you start of on the easy difficulty, the game will be easy to pick up and is rather intuitive. It actively rewards you for learning about game mechanics and experimenting with item and ability synergy, and you can even unlock more characters and items by doing simple challenges. Some challenges are much harder than others, but usually they feel unintrusive, and by the time you look to unlock the difficult ones, you already know most of the game. You are encouraged to find a way to play which differs depending on which item types you get and what character you are playing, which allows really fun levels of creativity with your builds.
Playing different characters and the randomness of the items, enemies, and environments in your runs is one of the best parts of this game, keeping it always feeling fresh and replayable. Every character has a unique moveset, and you can even further customize those by completing challenges on the character, unlocking alternate abilities to further customize your experience. Every character is at least viable, none of them are bad or suck, but some ARE more powerful than others most of the time(Loader).
As charlie said, this game doesn't care if you get op. It's almost encouraged to find overpowered combos. Usually you will have challenging runs, but once in a while, you'll get the perfect combo of items to ascend to godhood and completely destroy even the hardest difficulty. And let me tell you, it feels GREAT.
Multiplayer is also an amazing way to play the game. Gameplay is 100% funnier and random when playing with friends, although the difficulty of the game seems to scale pretty high with multiple players. Nothing feels better than beating the game on the hardest difficulty with some friends after a hard-fought run, or killing them all with the glowing meteorite equipment(usually friendly fire is off, don't worry).
A few more smaller points:
-The soundtrack of this game is amazing
-Interesting story and plot, which doesn't feel intrusive in normal gameplay at all
-dlc is available for this game, I recommend it for all the new content but is by no means required to play.
-if the party host owns the dlc, ALL players in the lobbs can play with the dlc content in that run, except for using the 2 added characters
-don't play acrid he's even worse than shartificer sorry acrid mains
-the game is technically infinite, you can fight the final boss and win the game, but you can also just keep playing level by level
-if you really want a save feature despite it being a roguelike, just get a mod for it! r2modman is free and took me 5 minutes to set up, and there are so many cool mods from qol to content.
-watch the opening cutscene, its badass
