I agree totally with Bernie Latham's comments having just rewatched this on BBC i-player. Jet black comedy, pastiche, slapstick, satire and all wrapped around a tragic backstory.
In essence a deeply felt and moving moral tale as well as a brilliant outlet for Potter's sideswipes at the deceptions and self deceptions required to survive in modern times. Great entertainment but always surprising, inventive and original.
