These comments about all the gender and race changing are kinda sad. Different should be welcome and accepted when done in a way that makes for a good story and serves to be more inclusive. A lot of the character designs were really cool and fresh while gently nodding to what it will inevitably be compared to, BTAS. i will admit due to nostalgia and the general idea in my brain, that BTAS is the benchmark/original source/best of the best, this show was never gonna be better in my mind even if it objectively was. but that kinda comes naturally when it feels like some of the changes were made for the sake of making the show different. i respect the changes for sure! but it felt like things like changing two face’s scars to the right side of his face instead of left, like EVERY other version, is just a change to make a change and other examples reflect that too. stupid to note, but kinda sets an alarm with the mindset of those who made the show; maybe all the changes weren’t for good story telling so much as being for the sake of different.
that said the show was pretty good but most importantly it was held back by its main character. batman was flat. i get its his early years but blegh. bruce should have a personality and he shouldnt call alfred by his last name and just be flat out rude to his caregiver. gotham and its characters were developed in a fun way, but batman himself jusr kinda sucks. maybe they can fix that in the next run. updated: it was intentional, he switches to “alfred” at the end and it notes how he’s finding bruce wayne again after being batman so long.
TLDR: good show, trust it. its differences are well thought out and took me a bit to be ok with (bc i care too much). but the people who made this care too and care about giving you something fresh and new!
