Out of curiosity, I read some of the one star reviews. People are complaining about the representation of mental illnesses being too over the top or inaccurate, which is ridiculous because it is all a spectrum. Assuming because you have never dealt with an individual like one in the series, whether it is the woman suffering from a DID split or Sang-tae with his autism, that it is exaggerated is very small minded.
As someone who has actually been diagnosed with disorders that are touched on in this show I highly recommend it. If anything is inaccurate, I would say my experience in psych wards aren't so pleasant. You definitely don't get to roam about outside freely. But this is only my experience in America, I have no idea how they are run in Korea.
That really doesn't detract from the plot at all. I love how they represent the characters' inner child in some very emotional scenes, I found it very meaningful. PTSD is a very common and serious disorder that I found very well illustrated here. The costuming was fantastic. The characters were lovable. I was really rooting for them the whole time. Except Ju-ri, she was quite annoying at times. I found her really pathetic and self-victimizing/pitying. I digress.
The best part of this drama by far is Sang-tae. The actor who brought this character to life is AMAZING. His mannerisms, delivery of lines, all of it... A wonderful depiction of an individual on the autism spectrum. He is so sweet and cute, and I love that instead of leaving him as just the "autistic side character" the writers actually give him an amazing character development story arc. Tears are actually welling up in my eyes right now thinking about it.
12/10 I wish I could give it more stars. Everyone who says it portrays mentally ill people cartoonishly can kick rocks. They're ignorant.
