Me being a storm spotter, I've always wanted a tornado film that depicted the weather realistically and not just for show... this film does exactly that. This is hands down the most realistic one to date and wasn't at all like 'Into The Storm' for example, where the weather was simply made to look cool and do cool things.
With that said, we only get one shot of the tornado throughout the whole movie. That one shot however, is the most ominous and chilling I've seen in a tornado flick... but you are still left wanting to see more. On the plus side, there were quite a few scenes that took place inside the tornado and those were great.
The first act of the film is drawn out due to the sheer number of characters that were introduced and developed. The film could have benefited from having a third of those characters removed, as you are left wondering when the actual weather part of the movie is going to start.
During the aftermath of the storm, you gain a real understanding of just how destructive these forces of nature can be and how crucial it is to heed the warnings and take cover when severe weather is imminent. This movie needed to be made for that sole purpose.
Is it worth the watch? Hell yeah! Is it better than 'Twister'?... I think us storm spotters will always know what the answer to that question will be ;)
