Without nostalgia goggles on, this game is pretty good. The combat is great, even though yes they did away with turn based, and it’s wonderful to see places I instantly recognized beautifully rendered. The story is not bad, however it’s bogged down by filler and fluff. There are parts so drawn out that you have to steel yourself to get through it. The ending though was the kicker. If you’re looking for your older sibling’s or your old FFVII, play the original. This isn’t a remake so much as a reimagining.
There’s nothing wrong with that but, whew, that boss fight in the end had me going “I’ve seen this before.” All in all, a solid game with solid combat and characters with a story that, while not as convoluted as FFXIII, is good. Just gotta wonder where is this journey going to take us?
