Wasn't expecting much because movies with lots of celebs, and with DiCaprio are usually bad... But I was wrong here. Really glad this was a comedy because the subject matter and allegory about the climate crisis is so very grim. (Also works as an allegory about COVID, though not intended.) The ending was exactly what it needed to be, instead of the Disney happy ending that Americans usually require so they don't have to face reality and the truth.
But I just keep thinking how spot on “Don’t Look Up” is. The characterizations of corporations/the wealthy, politicians, the mainstream media, Hollywood, and the irrational and ignorant masses willing to believe anything they’re told by leaders and unwilling to do anything that inconveniences them, as they constantly seek to conform to society (or their political party). And also the complete ostracism of those who are rational, educated, and who stand up to the corporations.
It’s all tremendously sad.
