Tyler Perry is good at what he does.. that’s the best compliment I can give this show besides mentioning that some of the acting was excellent. Any Tyler Perry project is a magnet for judgement and fodder. After watching “Beauty in Black” you can’t help but be captivated by Perry’s characters. He manages to do that with pacing that starts off at breakneck speeds, and barely lets up it’s Truley impressive especially paired with beautifully shot pieces. Sadly, the lack of coherent story telling and what I can only hope is a rouge anarchist in the editing room do their best to derail this Tarantino-esque web.The over the top caricatures of black folk make the show feel like it takes itself a little to seriously while wildly missing the mark it assumes so much of its self without treating the viewer as an intelligent one..characters jump to correct conclusions and the twists are manufactured instead of built up there are so many literary crimes committed. IMO the reveal of secrets make me feel blindsided in the worst way. The entire story is based on stupidity running rampant or coincidence which may be worse. I’m a little offended Tyler Perry thinks this is “for black ppl” but it’s subpar and uneven story telling with no overacting of talents I’m assuming he farmed from theater…too much at once Mr Perry … I will say this I watched all 8 episodes while complaining about incompetence…the man knows how to do what he does well…I would recommend watch but it’s low rated for me 4.5/10
