It is a shame that the studio decided to savagely edit the movie, and the original was lost forever. What is so haunting about this movie is Audie Murphy, the PTSD he suffered written all over his young face in every close up. Others were acting but it is clear he was reliving the hell he lived through when he was still a teenager fighting in Europe. That is what makes this movie so great, a true war hero playing a young soldier, and the price he paid and continued to pay, written all over his handsome boyish face for all to see.
