The concept of this game makes me want to love it. Open world RPGs are the best, a sci-fi robots and guns meets medieval weapons and magic universe sounds like heaven. I quickly discovered this game is the darkest corner of hell. The gameplay is catastrophically bad. The combat is so clunky and glitched that dodging is 100% luck based. The low end throw away enemies, even on the easiest setting, are insanely overpowered and 1 shot you. The leveling system is insane and requires you to dump all your money into it rather than being able to buy weapons or armor. If you open your inventory menu in the town you start in all the NPCs begin threatening to arrest you because apparently looking in your own pockets is forbidden technology. The missions all seem to consist of running from one place to another on a poorly designed map to have a badly written conversation with NPCs that sound and look so stupid it’s intolerable. People are saying “wait until you’re level 10” but I’ve been playing for 4 hours and I should have just stayed at work because it would have been more fun. If you’re considering buying this game I would recommend you sit in a dark room and do nothing or throw your Xbox in a lake instead of putting your time or money into Elex. The trailer for the sequel looks incredible but please don’t fall for it they should abandon this universe entirely after what they have done to it. Before I buy anything from anyone involved in the making of Elex ever again I want a refund, a formal apology, and a sizable sum for pain and suffering.
