This movie has very impressive visuals and audio but it feels like a movie for people who have read the book. I never read the book or knew anything about dune before I watched the movie and I felt that severely limited my enjoyment of the movie. There is an incredible amount of exposition throughout the movie but I still felt like there there should have been more as there are essential parts of the plot that aren’t explained until after they already happened. The movie is well acted and well directed, but while the movie is two and a half hours of an introduction to a narrative, I feel the movie would have benefitted being closer to three hours. I would have liked to see Dune released like the Synder cut, in several parts as a three to four hour movie that has time to flesh out the plot and characters more fully.
