This book and her previous book are most important writings on the life of wisdom in a ideologically driven society. No poetry, and Osip Madelstam was a great poet, echos the ideas of state. It always challenges state. Democratic state is the one which responds and respects the questioning of the poetry. But ideologically driven states are by their very nature try to crush any kind of questioning. Poets are killed, artists thrown out of their studios.
