This movie was truly unexpected. Antebellum has so many nuances most critics seem incapable of capturing them and seeing them for what they are. This movie took Civil War reenactments to another level and yes, the reality for an enslaved black person during this period in this country's history was accurately reflected on screen through this film. We are not that far removed from this past in the present and there are people who would like to return to this so called greatness. This movie was totally believable and offered an incredibly shocking depiction of our past/present.
