I felt so numb to books for the longest time. I’d read them, forget I’d read them and leave them gathering dust on my book shelf. Then I read The Song of Achilles. I set it down after finishing and picked up a glass of wine and tried to think about how much weight the words I’d read actually had, far beyond the story of Patroclus and Achilles. About grief, pride, love, family and belonging. It is written in such a way that leaves much to the imagination, but little to be desired. If you want to read a book without the extra wording that some novels may carry today, I would highly recommend reading this one.
