I finished watching it a couple of hours ago with my husband. I'm not the biggest Elvis fan, but I acknowledge his contribution that he made to popular music. Also, calling him the King of Rock n Roll has always peeved me, when I knew that others before him deserved that title. However, in this movie, I was happy to see that Elvis was shown he was greatly influenced by the gospel, blues and rhymes of African American culture.
The movie was a smorgasbord of colours, energies and intercut with real life events, which completely highlighted the different and formative years of Elvis's career.
The actor, Austin Butler, who played him was phenomenal. There were times I wasn't sure if it was a small clip of the real Elvis or the actor, as he was SO good. Austin Butler definitely deserves an Oscar for this role.
After watching the movie, I turned to my husband and said, that it looked like it was Tom Hanks who was playing Colonel Tom Parker. As I watched the credits I was stunned. I seriously didn't recognise him; his role was superb and credible.
I don't really know of Elvis and his life - my mum was a fan - but I will definitely watch this movie again; it had so many different layers to peel back.
