I'm a fan of sci-fi and anthologies in particular, and the premise of single character explorations within the genre was novel enough to make the series stand alone... but the writing falls short of the promise of the concept and leaves some great actors working in vanity.
The big miss, to me, is the apparent conceit that the quickest road to relatability seems to be references to pop culture and farts. It seems like the writers whose goal was to show the universality of human experience ironically had the most trouble relating to the viewer on the personal level.
The acting is good for what they're given. The cores of of the depths explored in the episodes are worthy, but there's an uncanniness in the valley of the day to day being. Pulling from just Leah and Tom, there's an over-reliance on the Verizon guy and Hoda in the writing that just doesn't land.
