John Wick thrusts us into the global world of assassins VS assassins and explores the inner sanctums of a hidden criminal empire known as The High Table. This third installment treats its audience with enough maturity to explore complex relationships and ideals, occasionally offering sparkles of levity through Derek Kolstad's witty script.
In addition to it's balletic choreography of bone-crushing executions, the film is drenched in philosophical thought, exploring the virtues of rules and the consequences of oaths. Characters pop beautifully on-screen through precise costuming and dramatic cinematography.
Refreshingly, this isn't a blood-fest of innocent people nor is this simplistic zealous good VS evil fare. Rather it is the chronicling of self-imposed masochism brought upon oneself by entering the consecrated palaces of the criminal underworld and the build-up of deadly forces, turbulent friendships and familial alliances.
