I rate Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker better than Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Much much better, but way behind Episode VII: The Force Awaken.
When TFA was release, it showed alot of the original trilogy’s DNA. The follow up episode, TLJ, was a real let down. It drifted to far off it felt like a totally different movie. TRS tried to redeem the mess TLJ created and it was partly successful in bringing the story back to its origin. The plot twist was also an interesting part of the story, if only they made it as dramatic as the “I am your father” drama of The Empire Strikes Back. What it fail to deliver is a convincing drama. There were to many people sacrificing themselves to save others It made those sacrafices cringeworthy. As well as to many last minute saved it felt like they copied memorable moments on the original trilogy and randomly paste them through out TRS. As for the main Antagonists, Kylo Ren was never a strong villain. He was always at the border, thus making him not powerful enought to be hated through out the trilogy. Palpatine was a much more powerful character as a villain, unfortunately he wasn’t given enough role to build the energy for viewers to really despise him.
